Peoples climate action
International activists create climate campaign in Denmark
Activists from six countries will meet in Denmark to put a climate campaign together. The aim of the campaign creation is to get Denmark to pay its climate debt to the poor countries
Global Change is a new Activist Training Program of MS ActionAid which is taking place at the organization's educational centre in the heart of Nørrebro, Copenhagen. Participants come from six different countries, and right now the students have started to develop a large-scale climate campaign.
"I learn a lot by being a part of this campaign. There are many helpful tools that I can take back to Zimbabwe. I also believe in our approach and focus, namely to mobilize young people to put pressure on politicians and get rich countries to pay their climate debt, "says Edith from Zimbabwe, who is a student activist in training.
The goal of the campaign is to get the Danish government to pay six billion of the climate debt to the developing world, which already suffers from climate change.
The next step in the campaign is a trip to Kenya, where half the students take off to experience the climate changes and their effect on the population. The other half of the group will be in Denmark to spread information about the climate debt of rich countries and simultaneously mobilize volunteers for the campaign, which culminates on 12th of December, also called the "Global Day of Action".
